TRAINING NEW RECRUITS
Induction is the most crucial part of an employee's training, according to 91% of the HR professionals taking part in the 2010 XpertHR induction survey. But a quarter of the same employers report that this part of an employee's development is very low on their list of organisational priorities, with four in 10 saying that their induction is in need of a thorough overhaul.

The research, released in two parts on the XpertHR website, looks at induction delivery at 122 organisations and examines what contributes to its success.

The Government will soon publish the results of its consultation on the future of the legislation giving employees the right to make a statutory request in relation to study or training, but until then it's business as usual for employers with 250 employers or more. XpertHR continues to add to information about this legislation on its website, including a discussion piece on how an employer should respond to an employee request for company-sponsored education.

Finally, George Osborne's Comprehensive Spending Review included announcements about changes in the field of education and training, such as the abolition of Train to Gain. These are summarised on our website along with other points from the review that are relevant to HR.
