HOW TO CONDUCT AN EQUAL PAY REVIEW
Sheila Attwood, Editor

The IRS 2008 survey of equal pay audits in the private sector revealed that just 24.3% of organisations had conducted, or planned to conduct, a formal equal pay review. One of the reasons given for not doing so was a lack of awareness and understanding of equal pay legislation.

Organisations are often daunted by the prospect of conducting an equal pay review, as a thorough process can require reams of data. However, according to Lorraine Paddison from equality and diversity consultants TMS, it needn't be a formidable process. In our main feature this issue, Paddison talks through the various steps of conducting an equal pay review, from starting out to data collection, the role of line managers and dealing with the outcomes.

We also look at the decision in an equal pay case, which sets out the requirements employees have to fulfil before taking an equal pay claim to the employment tribunal.

Other top stories in this issue include:

Also in this issue we present detailed coverage of three new pay settlements: the engineering construction industry, sixth-form college support staff and Unipres.
