In this issue we present the final articles in our four-part series on benefits and allowances.

Our review of travel and subsistence payments looks in detail at company car and car allowance arrangements; mileage rates; subsistence payments; and season ticket loans.

The final article in the series presents our findings on other benefits and allowances including long-service awards; childcare payments and vouchers; staff discounts; and salary-sacrifice schemes.

Elsewhere, pay setters should note the Bank of England's latest inflation expectations. The bank reiterates its fear that higher inflation expectations will feed through into higher wages, although our latest pay settlement data does not support this view.

The datafile contains the most recent inflation, earnings and labour market statistics, pay settlement data and inflation and earnings forecasts. Our panel of City and academic forecasters is expecting headline inflation to average 3.8% over 2008. Average earnings growth is expected to average 4% in 2008 and 3.9% in 2009.
