EMPLOYEE BENEFITS
In this issue, we present more findings from our survey of benefits and allowances in 356 organisations. Our review of travel-related benefits explores the range of benefits available, from provision of company cars and car allowances to mileage rates and free car parking. We also look at what health benefits employers offer, and how these differ for different groups of employees.

A separate article examines various allowances paid to employees, including: data on subsistence allowances; standby and call-out payments; payments for first-aiders; and tool allowances.

Our focus on benefits comes as employers look beyond basic pay rises and explore other ways to reward their staff. The latest XpertHR data reveals that the median pay award across the whole economy stands at 2% in May 2012, with no sign of a significant upturn any time soon.
