JANUARY PAY DEALS
Our pay settlement figures this month confirm the upward movement in pay awards first noted at the end of last year. In the three months to the end of January 2012, the median basic pay award stood at 2.5%, half a percentage point above the 2% level seen through most of 2011. The good news for employees is that while the level of pay increases goes up, the level of inflation is coming down. Retail prices index inflation fell to 3.9% in January 2012.

Our latest analysis looks in detail at the pattern of pay awards, including differences between the manufacturing and services sector. We provide commentary on the outlook for the remainder of the year. You can also see details of the latest pay awards in around 30 organisations in our pay review update table.

Our look at graduate salaries reveals that, for the third year running, the median increase in graduate starting salaries was nil in 2011. The median starting salary for graduates covered by the survey is £24,500 per year.

This month we are also investigating market-linked pay. Please complete our short survey on the subject.
