SICK PAY RATES
Provision of occupational sick pay that is more generous than statutory sick pay levels is almost universal, according to the latest survey of sick pay arrangements from XpertHR. However, the levels of payment vary widely and the more generous are almost always linked to length of service.

Respondents also operate different policies on aspects such as length of service required to qualify for occupational sick pay, whether it is paid from the first day of sick leave, and what happens when sick pay has been exhausted. We also present findings on notification policies and how organisations withhold sick pay when these requirements are not met.

Our analysis of pay settlement trends reveals that the level of pay rises has taken a dip over the latest three-month period. We also examine how the October 2012 national minimum wage increase is reflected in retail-sector pay awards.
