MANUFACTURING PAY RISES
Pay awards in the manufacturing sector have sat comfortably above those in the services sector over the past year, but they remain subdued by long-term standards. Our latest review of pay issues in the sector finds that the median pay settlement over the past year, of 2.6%, is higher than the forecast pay award of 2.5% for the coming 12 months.

Although fewer companies are making pay freezes, redundancies are still apparent, and the outlook for pay awards during the next year predominantly depends on how each business performs.

One area in which many employers have sought to save costs over the past few years is in overtime pay, with half of the respondents to our new overtime survey reporting that they have made attempts to reduce the amount of paid overtime at their organisation over the past year. Our report also looks in detail at the types of workers eligible for overtime and rates of overtime pay.
