How to harmonise terms and conditions in a unionised workplace
In this article, we look in detail at harmonising terms and conditions from a trade union perspective, examining a process that led to complete breakdown in industrial relations so fractious that it ended up in the Court of Appeal. We also review an exercise largely free from problems.

SALARY SURVEYS GUIDE
Recent research by XpertHR revealed that one of the key priorities for reward departments in 2012 will be benchmarking salaries against the external market. With such a wide range of salary surveys available, and a host of different variables to consider, we guide readers through the process in our user's guide to salary surveys.

Harmonising the terms and conditions of different groups of employees can also be a minefield. When a trade union is involved, there is an added dimension for the organisation to consider. Our case studies on harmonisation look at two very different sets of negotiations, both of which produced favourable outcomes for the parties involved. The article also presents a list of learning points for employers and trade unions negotiating a harmonisation agreement.
