Sales and marketing
Sales and marketing staff saw their earnings increase by an average of 4.3% over the past 12 months, according to the XpertHR salary survey of sales and marketing staff for 2012/13. But with fewer staff receiving bonuses, many will be lucky to receive more than the 2.5% increase in basic pay, bringing increases more into line with other employee groups. SHIFT WORKING
Many organisations rely on shift working to meet business needs as well as to match staffing with business volumes, but some employees also choose to work non-standard hours to fit in with their needs. Our survey of shift-working arrangements reveals that organisations operate a host of different shift patterns to cover 24/7 working. The report includes examples of the shift hours and rotation of various different shift patterns.

As a general rule of thumb, the greater disruption to an employee's life, the greater the premium that shift working attracts. A second article in our series looks at shift premiums, finding that some shifts attract a premium worth 50% of the basic pay rate. This article lists the typical shift premiums for different shift-pattern arrangements.
