TRANSNATIONAL EMPLOYMENT RELATIONS
A growing number of multinational companies are engaging with trade unions at European or global level.
This takes a variety of forms, as illustrated by two examples we report on this month. Thales technology group has agreed with unions on a Europe-wide framework for staff appraisal interviews, building on an earlier European agreement on professional development.
Rhodia, a chemicals multinational, has set up a joint global body with unions to monitor the safety situation in its worldwide operations and recommend improvements, joining companies such as ArcelorMittal and GDF Suez that already have global health and safety structures.
