Absence rates and costs survey 2012
Absence rate remains at 2.8% of working time lost
Our 2012 XpertHR research into absence rates and costs finds that absence from work was worth an average of 2.8% - and a median of 2.5% - of working time in 2011, equivalent to an average of 6.4 days per employee. Sickness absence cost employers an average of £618 per head in 2011.

ABSENCE RATES AND COSTS SURVEY 2012
Every year, we gather information from employers on absence rates and sickness absence costs. Our latest findings show a slow but sure year-on-year decline in overall absence levels across employers over the past five years - from a median of 3.2% of working time lost to absence in 2007, compared with 2.5% in 2011.

Among our matched sample, the median absence rate stood at 2.5% for 2011, a drop from 2.8% recorded in 2010.
