ABSENCE MANAGEMENT TRAINING
Our research into absence management training for line managers examines how such training is best delivered and evaluated and finds that interactive training, including one-to-one coaching by HR - followed up with refresher training or guidance - comes out on top.
We also find that offering such training to line managers can be very effective in boosting their confidence in dealing with employee sickness absence - lack of confidence in this area means that line managers shy away from dealing with the issue, which in turn costs organisations in increased absence rates.
The top 10 attendance and absence features for this year show that absence rates are still of primary interest, but there has been a lot of curiosity around how the fit note has bedded in.
Elsewhere, we include news and features from the latest edition of Occupational Health magazine.
