1. Labour turnover rates: XpertHR survey 2011
The latest XpertHR research shows that voluntary resignation rates stood at an average of 10.1% in 2010, with the highest rates experienced by private sector services companies. We also find that the recession is still having a negative impact on some organisations' labour turnover patterns, although a few employers report a slight improvement in the external job market.
2. Absence rates survey 2011: 2.8% of working time lost
XpertHR research found that absence from work was worth 2.8% of working time in 2010, equivalent to an average of 6.5 days per employee. The cost of absence amounted to £553 per employee, when averaged across the whole workforce.
3. Managing absence: records, triggers and targets
Employers are putting their absence records to good use, according to our research. In particular, they are ensuring that an individual's attendance is automatically reviewed by setting absence triggers, and are comparing their corporate records against annual improvement targets.
4. How manager training can reduce absence rates
XpertHR research finds that training line managers in absence management gives them the confidence to tackle employee sickness and non-attendance issues, and frequently leads to reduced absence rates.
5. XpertHR long-term sickness absence survey: effective management
Several factors help facilitate a successful return to work after a long-term absence, according to XpertHR research. These include regular, two-way communication with the absentee from an early stage, flexibility on the part of the employer and active employee involvement with a return plan.

TOP FIVE ABSENCE MANAGEMENT ARTICLES
Getting your absence management procedures right can have a positive impact on absence rates, productivity and overall business performance. With new research indicating that employees are working while sick, employers need to be more rigid than ever in managing absence - sick employees in the workplace are less productive for longer and more likely to make other employees ill.
Our top five articles, as viewed by subscribers since January 2012, demonstrate the usefulness of absence rates in managing absence. Completing our survey on absence and labour turnover rates will allow your organisation access to latest rates and costs of absence.
Elsewhere, the latest addition to the XpertHR good practice manual outlines the business case for investing in employee wellbeing, as well as steps for implementing an effective programme.
