TARGETS AND TRIGGERS
Setting targets can increase the overall effectiveness of absence management. The final report of our research into absence records, targets and triggers finds that, where targets are set, most employers feel they are effective. However, fewer than half of the 237 employers we surveyed set an absence target for their organisation or business unit.

Our accompanying report examines how triggers are also an effective tool to manage absence. When an employee's absence rate reaches a trigger point, it gives employers the chance to proactively manage it.

Elsewhere, the XpertHR policies and documents section has been enhanced by the addition of model letters requiring an employee to take holiday on specified dates and responding to an employee who has requested to cancel or rearrange his or her holiday.
